History of the Doc Holmes Award:
Doc Holmes was a doctor who lived in Incline Village. Doc Holmes, along with Don Heidtman and Gene Dalpaiz, were all instrumental in forming the Nevada State Archery Association. Doc Holmes was very active first in the Washoe Bowmen and then the Silver Arrow Bowmen. He was a long time active member of the Silver Arrow Bowmen and also served on the State Board in the early years of the Nevada State Archery Association and the Silver Arrow Bowmen. Late in life he became very ill and was diagnosed with cancer. His participation in Club activities at this time became limited. State Board Members acted upon the suggestion of the Silver Arrow Bowmen and the vote was unanimous to honor Doc with this award. It was decided at the awards ceremony that it would be named after him and became the Nevada State Doc Holmes Award to honor him for his years of dedication. It was presented to him at the Annual State Archer Tournament. Possible Silver Arrow Bowmen members that were responsible for submitting his name for this award were Paul "Zoomer" Sumerack, Gary Woo, Don Heidtman, Gene Dalpaiz, as well as some of the other old timers.
